Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, spans a total area of 2528 square km, with 91588 hectares dedicated to cultivated land. The primary agricultural productions in the district are wheat and rice. A significant majority of farmers, constituting 69%, are small and medium-level farmers, typically owning around 1 acre of land each. Lucknow Producers Cooperative Milk Union Ltd., also known as Parag Dairy Lucknow, was established in 1938, making it the first Co-operative Dairy in India. A noteworthy historical fact is that the process developed by Lucknow Milk Union served as the inspiration for the Gujarat co-operative milk movement, now renowned as the 'Anand Pattern.' Recognized as a model dairy, Lucknow Milk Union was selected to implement the Operation Flood Programme initiated by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in 1970. The current handling capacity of the plant is 1,50,000.
