The Milk Supply Schemes, initiated by the Animal Husbandry Department of Himachal Pradesh in 1967, served as a crucial channel for providing markets to Milk Producers residing in remote and far-flung areas of the state. The foundation for Himachal Pradesh Milkfed (H.P. MilkFed) was laid in 1980, and its official operations commenced on October 2, 1983. This initiation coincided with the transfer of Dairy Development Activities from the government to H.P. MilkFed, encompassing the districts of Mandi, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Sirmour, Solan, and a portion of Shimla Districts. Since then, H.P. MilkFed has played a pivotal role in supporting and uplifting milk producers in these regions, contributing to the overall development of the dairy sector in Himachal Pradesh.
